That's the problem with doing no writing since May

I would kind of like to submit an abstract to Kalamazoo this year. I even have a couple of sessions picked out as possibilities. The problem is that I am fresh out of ideas at the moment. Or at least, fresh out of ideas that I'm confident I can write a paper about by May. And somehow I can't imagine I'll have much time to brainstorm, since I'll be teaching every day starting tomorrow...

Sigh. But maybe inspiration will well up unexpectedly once you stop thinking about it?

A reason you have to come up with a K'zoo paper: Another Damned Medievalist is making me go; and, ages ago you asked me if I'd done any work on the actual nuns at Sant Joan de les Abadesses in its earliest period, and now I have, for something else entirely. By K'zoo I should have a final draft... (though, to be fair, I have a first draft now so you could have it if you wanted).

I would absolutely love to go, and hear all about the nuns of Sant Joan. At the moment inspiration remains stubbornly absent. I have a file of ideas, but they all seem to require more research than I can count on doing...

Can't you present something based on things you already have written? Or submit an abstract that could actually be written up in several different ways when the time comes? No one will actually hold you to the abstract, after all.

I could present on aspects of older work... I don't love recycling conference papers, though I know people do. Tonight I actually had an idea, then found it doesn't actually fit the theme of the sessions I was eyeing. Need to give this a bit more thought...

I should make it clear that I'm not presenting on the nuns at Kalamazoo; I'm doing something about local succession to the fisc, unless as seems possible I don't have time to do the research and have to improvise. But the nuns paper will be finished by then. (Word verification, `licila', who was probably one of the really early ones for whom we have no names...)
